Shamed Beauty
I will not die
An unseemly death,
Whatever you may wish.
I will not cry myself to sleep in
Broken, flatulent dreams of you.
I have faced the realms of
Ice-cold heaven, I have drunk
The tepid flames of hell—
Do as you wish, Curse...
Cursed fragment of peace,
Blasphemed devil of desire.
I will not swallow your hungry eyes,
I will not part my flowery words—
Not anymore, not for you.
When you walk the coast alone,
When you lie awake in shivering pain,
Know that you have shamed me,
Shamed the beauty of ‘us,’ cradled
A dead thing close to your heart and
Tried.....
O, how you tried to breathe life
Into this hollow shell.
I once walked upon water for you,
Now I swim in the volcanic currents
Of spent passion,
Not drowning as you may wish,
Not cowering or chasing or begging.
Do what you will,
I no longer follow your religion,
I no longer worship at your altar—
I am free and whole,
Free, flying free.
