Dena's Poetry: Poetry of Love, Loss, and the Occult
Poetry of Love, Loss, and the Occult
Miraculous Calm

Smooth surface
Shines like glass
Glinting in the sun,
Illusive and pale.
No slapping waves;
No disturbing breeze blows
Reflective water.
So strange, surreal--
A pond stretching,
Yawning infinity,
Connecting continents,
Hiding life and death
Under the glossy cover.
So utterly still,
So unforgivingly encompassing,
Enthralling.
Miraculous calm,
Smooth gray marble surface
Of an ocean
Solid enough--
Even mortals like us
Can walk upon it.
