Dena's Poetry: Poetry of Love, Loss, and the Occult
Poetry of Love, Loss, and the Occult
Down Inside The Well
(We Will Be One)

Down inside the well,
It's nearly dry,
So dry,

And we can look down
All we want,
Throw pennies,

Get a flashlight
Peer.
What do you see?

"There's nothing there,
A bit of mud,
Some fragile leaves."

No,
No! Look again.
What do you see?

See the flicker,
That shadow there?
It is white and black

All at once.
Can you see it?
Can you?

"I see mist.
That's all...
Nothing more."

You see it,
Don't lie!
The eyes, there

The eyes,
And the vapor of
A soul moving.

"I do not see it!
I will not see it!
Those souls..."

Down inside the well
They live, just as
Memories live...

Just as you and I
Live,
And pray

And pray to live.
We are all scared,
All of us.

We are all scared.
There will come a day
When we, too, will fall.

Fall and linger
In the hollow of the well
With those souls,

Trapped in dark space,
Haunting ghosts
We will be one with our fears.
