Dena's Poetry: Poetry of Love, Loss, and the Occult
Poetry of Love, Loss, and the Occult
A Pulse You Cannot Contain

I walk a fine line
Between love and hate,
Don't we all?  The miles
Of veins, the mountains of arteries
They all lead back to the heart.

Inside this heart there is a black spot,
A heavy bleeding circle of pain,
Collapsing and pulsing with the stink
Of your love for me--
Too sweet, it sticks like crystallized syrup.

O, false foe, aching lover!
Turn now and walk away.
I have a void you cannot fill,
A pulse you cannot contain.
I have given you my all.

My soul has lain upon your floor,
My mind upon your tender words,
My body, broken and spent
In the memory of your lust.
I will not walk this path again.
